The 1st Meeting of BRICS Working Group on ICT cooperation, Digital BRICS Task Force, and BRICS Institute of Future Networks (BIFN) Council took place virtually on 25-27 May 2022. Chaired by the International Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China, the Meeting was attended by representatives from line ministries and research institutions from BRICS countries.

The Meeting reviewed the progress achieved in BRICS communication cooperation, reached consensus on the Work Plan of Digital BRICS Task Force, and discussed the draft Declaration of the 8th BRICS Communication Ministers Meeting. The Chinese Presidency briefed about major activities for this year, including the Digital BRICS Forum, and BRICS Forum on Future Networks Innovation. BIFN Council was encouraged to have further discussion on its Work Plan, the proposal for a permanent secretariat and other issues.

Representatives commended the Presidency for playing a constructive role, expressed their support for the activities to be held, and agreed to collectively intensify cooperation on ICTs in seizing the opportunities brought by global digitalization.
