BRICS High-level Forum on Sustainable Development Held in Fuzhou
The BRICS High-level Forum on Sustainable Development was held from June 29 to 30,2022, in Fuzhou of Fujian Province, China. Zhao Long, deputy secretary of the CPC of Fujian Provincial Committee, governor of Fujian Provincial People’s Government, Zhao Chenxin, member of the Party Committee, Deputy Director and Secretary of the National Development and Reform Commission of China attended and addressed the opening ceremony of the forum. Alexandre Ywata, special secretariat for Productivity and Competitiveness of the Ministry of Economy of Brazil, Vladimir Ilichev, deputy minister of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russia, Rajasree Ray, economic adviser of the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change of India, Daan du Toit, deputy director general of International Cooperation and Resources of the Department of Science and Innovation of South Africa delivered remarks respectively in hybrid format, and more than 300 representatives from international organizations including Development Programme, Environment Programme,and Industrial Development Organization of the United Nations,Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank,New Development Bank and concerned departments of China were invited to the forum as well.
As an important event in the professional field under BRICS framework, the forum aims to strengthen communication and exchanges between BRICS countries and seek practical industrial cooperation. It is of great significance to the implementation of the China-proposed Global Development Initiative and the Global Security Initiative, the implementation of the United Nation's 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and the promotion of the construction of a global development community, Zhao Chenxin said when addressing the forum.
Speaking of further promoting fruitful BRICS cooperation, Zhao proposed to stay committed to opening up and innovation for jointly boosting economic recovery, seek innovation-driven leap-forward development, strengthen environmental governance to build a community for human and nature, and strengthen people's livelihood and well-being.
XIV BRICS Summit Beijing Declaration commended the proposal to organize the BRICS High-level Forum on Sustainable Development. As an important BRICS event after the Summit, the forum is a proactive action to implement consensus reached by member states in the XIV BRICS Summit Beijing Declaration. A presidency initiative on BRICS industrial cooperation was issued as well during the forum, calling for strengthening institutional cooperation to promote post-pandemic economic recovery, pushing forwards diversified cooperation to promote win-win economic connectivity, promoting digital transition to build advantages of economic development and leading green development to build a sustainable future.
