Meeting of BRICS Ministers of Foreign Affairs

The first Meeting of Foreign Ministers on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly in 2006 lifted the curtain on the BRICS cooperation, and it has been held 14 times so far. In 2017, as the then BRICS chair, China proposed to hold the first official Meeting of the BRICS Ministers of Foreign Affairs in Beijing. Since then it has become an annual meeting and has been held 6 times. During the meeting, the BRICS Foreign Ministers communicate and coordinate on major international and regional issues as well as on cooperation in various fields.The 2022 BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting was successfully held on 19 May. It was chaired by State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi and attended by other BRICS foreign ministers. Important consensus was reached at the meeting and positive outcomesproduced on important issues bearing on global security and development, laying the political foundation for the 14th BRICS Summit. The foreign ministers released a Joint Statement on “Strengthen BRICS Solidarity and Cooperation, Respond to New Features and Challenges in International Situation”. During the meeting, BRICS foreign ministers also had a dialogue with foreign ministers of emerging markets and developing countries.
